I am on a mission this year! - Tecumseh, MI Newborn Photographer

As you probably sense, or if you know me, or if you follow my Facebook business page... then you already know that Newborn Photography is something I am really passionate about. I have been working intensely lately about really getting further experience, training, and practice at this part of my work. I have always felt very comfy with newborns, but it goes beyond that for me. It's a part of my work where I feel most fulfilled, happy, and I just know it's the part of my passion I am supposed to be honing in on right now. It's gotten to the point where my family doesn't even think it's strange that I am constantly ordering new newborn items that arrive almost daily to our front door. My kids are FAR from the newborn stage of life (at 7 and 17), but it's the norm around here right now... and that makes me happy :)

So... my mission this year is to photograph 36 newborns. It's SUPER scary for me, to put a number on it, because I don't do well when I set goals and then don't achieve them. But that's 3 newborns a month, and I feel like I am already off to a good start. So... this is me setting my intention! Putting it out there for the public to see my intention, for me to be a tiny bit vulnerable with my fears outwardly, and to move forward with my personal professional goals! This goal isn't a financial goal, but rather a need to fulfill something within myself that I have decided to challenge myself with. Newborn sessions make me HAPPY!

With that, I am going to try to share a few recent sessions over the next few days or weeks. First up, this Monday, I got to spend the morning with this adorable little guy name Liam, and his family. I did his little brothers newborn pictures just over 2 years ago. It's a treat to be asked back to share in this special time with families! I look forward to photographing him again a few more times this coming year since he is a new member to Touch of Love Photography's Bebe' Collection! We love our Bebe' Collection "ers"!

Elliot Boys! - Tecumseh, MI Photographer

January has been a busy month for the studio! I have some new adorable back drops, and I am LOVING the soft cream rug with the gentle soft backdrop too! I am definitely overdoing that look, but hey trends come and go, and the organic feel to those photos are appealing to me, so I am going with it! This little guy is Grant, and his big brother Chase jumped in the pictures for a few shots. I LOVE the moody black and white of big brother too :)

Michigan is a FREEZING pit of endless cold days and snow, but it's warm in the studio and we have several openings during February! Looking forward to Valentine Mini's this weekend!

Have a great week! xoxo, Kari

Mark & Sarah are ENGAGED! - Tecumseh, MI Photographer

Snow sessions are QUICKLY becoming one of my favorites! Luckily we had a semi tolerable snow day last weekend, and were able to get out for some fun in the snow! Mark & Sarah's wedding day is going to be so much fun!

Their sweet little Peyton did an amazing job braving the cold with us, she didn't complain once, but instead said, "why are we doing this? This is SO weird!" Haha! So funny!

Thank you all for braving the snow! I hope you enjoy these photos for years to come!

xoxo, Kari

The Birth of Ivy Grace - Ann Arbor, MI Birth Photographer

What an unbelievable birth. Amazing, beautiful, and just downright perfect. Little Miss Ivy made her way into this world on January 1, 2014. Just a few days overdue, the on call doctors and nurses were pretty impressed that mom was able to get induced on New Years Day! Definitely out of the ordinary, but some things are just meant to be!

Ivy's Momma was an absolute CHAMP. She was in control, worked through the pain, and kept her composure the ENTIRE time. Women are amazing creatures to say the least. Ivy's daddy was gentle, intuitive and in the end... SO completely happy. I love to watch fathers beam for first timers :) Babies are seriously the best gift ever.

Ivy weighed in at a whopping 9 lbs. 1 oz. and 21.5 inches! After Ginger (Ivy's mom) telling us that she was pretty sure she would be less than 8 lbs, we were all very off in our guesses! My initial observation were Ivy's CHEEKS!!! Oh what I wouldn't give to squeeze them right now! ;)

Thank you Gladkowski Family for allowing me to capture these precious moments with you and for you. I trust that they will take you back to those first moments, where she "Graced" you with her presence! (Thus Ivy GRACE)! Amazing job both of you. You are so deserving. xoxo, Kari

As you can see, these birth sessions are one of kind, emotionally filled, timeless, priceless keepsakes. We focus on the "moments". The moments where you first meet your love. Not the gorey parts of delivery (which turns some people off when I mention I shoot birth photography). But truly, these are some of the most beautiful moments EVER. Contact me today if you are looking to have your birth photographed!

Its kind of a surprise to me... Tecumseh, MI Photographer

It's kind of a surprise to me that this blog is still here, but it's also a surprise to me that I remember the password to log in to this blog to update it!

Thanks for hanging in there with me over the last few months. I have endured a BUSY busy busy season and am finally coming up for air! It was a successful season layered with much more balance than previous years, and in that balance my blog takes an immediate backseat. My kids deserve the time invested into them, rather than the time I used to spend keeping up the blog. So again, thank you again for your patience and understanding and I promise over the slower months to do a better job of popping in here to keep things... interesting... that might not be the right choice of words! Let's just go with keeping this a tad more UPDATED! ha!

I am shooting many more sessions in the studio now that the weather has changed. It's always such an adjustment for me every year to go from full blown outside sessions to back in the studio with artificial lighting and backdrops! It's no secret that I definitely prefer the outside, it provides a better place for kids to BE KIDS! Always something I pride my sessions on. I don't ask my kids (eh hmmm... err my stubborn son) to let me set him in front of a backdrop, and perform like it's nobody's business! It DOES not work well for him! But, over the last few years, I think I have figured out a way to make the best of living in Michigan and for me, it requires a little bit of  back drop in a room and kids "performing with smiles" in the studio. Stepping out of my comfort zone OFTEN leaves me with little gems like this little guy I got to meet on Saturday!

His name is Ajay, and he was a CHAMP in the studio! I absolutely love taking the time to play and giggle and be silly with these littles! Thank you so much to Ajay's family for giving my studio a try. He is SUCH a little gem! The last words out of his dad's mouth as they left the studio were, "When can we bring him back?!" As he said that, I walked away feeling like... "hmmm maybe I CAN make the most of winters in the studio!" Thank you for that validation Ajay's daddy!
